ADOLESCENT DATING VIOLENCE INCREASING PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE IN SOCIAL MEDIA IN DEVELOPED COUNTRIES: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Abstract


ABSTRACT

Background: Incidence of violence against women is still much happened in the world, amounting to 38% and 19.5% occur in adolescents dating with the opposite sex. The most common form of violence is psychological/ emotional violence as much as 77%. The use of social media on adolescents has a negative influence, as a forum for acts of psychological violence, which can affect the psychological health of adolescents.

Methods: The research method uses systematic review with journal search using Proquest, Science Direct, and Sage Publications online databases from 2009-2019. Keyword search using PICO-S (population intervention compare outcome-study design) using query dating violence and internet abuse and social media and psychological abuse and adolescent. There are 7 journals that suitable to the research inclusion criteria.

Results: Based on 7 journal articles analyzed about the use of social media with the incidence of dating violence in adolescents which includes actions that affect adolescent psychology such as coercion, excessive jealousy, and aggressive behavior on social media that is widely used by adolescents. Violent behavior begins at the elementary school grade 6 and there is an increasing in the incidence of dating violence at the junior and senior high school levels.

Conclusion: The use of social media influences adolescent dating violence issues which can cause adolescent psychological health disorders that will affect the reproductive process in the future.
